The band’s producer was initially skeptical of the composition. Roy Thomas Baker, the producer on ‘A Night at the Opera,’ first heard the song’s framework in Freddie’s flat and laughed when Mercury told him “this is where the opera section comes in!”. He wasn’t laughing after seeing all of the notes and doodles. The song was introduced on the radio by the band’s friend Kenny Everett. The radio DJ promised not to play the song… but he did. He aired it in October of 1975 on his popular London station, Capital FM. The listeners became obsessed and flooded the station with requests for “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Everett played it over 14 times in 2 days.
